BANGKOK, Apr 11 (TNA) - The government is confident in state security measures during the Songkran
festival this year and the forthcoming international crime conference to be host by the kingdom next week, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Interior
Minister Pol. Gen. Chidchai Vanasatidya.
Pol. Gen. Chidchai told journalists here this morning before a meeting held at the Office of the National
Security (NSC) that he believed state security measures reinforced at all key points across the country would be sufficient to prevent any undesirable
incidents during this year's traditional Thai New Year celebrations.
He said that the well-prepared security measures would be discussed at the
meeting, chaired by him.
Other authorities attending the meeting include senior security officers, Justice Minister Suwat Liptapanlop and senior
officials from the Bangkok Metropolitian Administration (BMA), according to the journalists.
Pol. Gen. Chidchai said that reinforced security measures
during Thailand's host of the 11th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice would also be discussed at the meeting.
The
international crime conference, expected to be attended by more than 3,000 national leaders, justice ministry officials, high ranking civil servants and
heads of international organizations, is scheduled to be held in Bangkok between 18-25 April.
Thailand is the second Asian country selected to host
the UN conference.
